Sticky Fingers, Wet Seats, and Sound Healing

If you've ever wondered what happens when a cat becomes a career criminal, why some tram seats should come with warning labels, or whether sound healing can actually cure chronic hives, then you're in for a treat. This week on That's a Free Bee, I explore everything from feline felons to life hacks that come from unfortunate public transit experiences.

Let's start with Dusty, the infamous Kleptokitty from San Mateo. This Siamese legend didn't just steal socks—he stole hearts (and about 600 other items). From bras to car wash mitts, Dusty's late-night hauls were so legendary they landed him on Must Love Cats and even The Late Show with David Letterman. Sadly, Dusty passed away in 2023, but his thieving legacy lives on in internet lore and on the bonus features of the Puss in Boots DVD. Rest in peace, you adorable little felon.

In personal misadventure news: I relive the sticky horror of sitting in orange juice on a tram. The trauma lives on in the form of a pre-seat ritual that now makes strangers judge me like I’m doing something far weirder than just checking for sogginess. Pro tip: always test before you rest.

Also on the docket: my noble return to karate and healthier eating, which has so far resulted in six lost pounds, zero morning McDonald’s runs, and one final free coffee thanks to reward points. Small wins are still wins, especially when they come with caffeine.

Listener Susie from Mississippi wrote in with solidarity over our mutual battle with chronic urticaria and angioedema. She introduced me to sound healing, which—plot twist—I’ve kind of been doing by accident thanks to the Endel app. Whether it's real science or placebo, it’s been helping me focus, write, and maybe (just maybe) keep the hives at bay.

And finally, the exhausting journey that is the education system. After being told I had a form I didn’t have, told again that I did have it, and finally having it recreated by someone with the power to actually help, we’re inching closer to clarity on my daughter's schooling. Fingers crossed the upcoming hearing brings some sanity.

Oh! And if you’re a member of That’s a Free Bee Plus, you’re getting an exclusive treat this week: the pilot episode of a brand new podcast I’m testing called Draft. Head over to bugfixesandimprovements.com to check it out and become a member if you're not already.

Until next time, remember: always check your seat and never underestimate a cat with a plan.
